This morning we went into the hall and found 5 dead bodies!
We had to use our investigating skills to find evidence about the skeleton in front of us.
Can you remember how we can use the skeleton to tell the gender of the deceased?
I could tell you all really enjoyed the session. Write back giving your opinions.

ReplyDeleteI have to agree with you both, it was very interesting. I already knew about fingerprints being unique but I didn't know that men and women have different shaped eye sockets. Can you remember what we found out?
ReplyDeletei enjoyed today very much my best part was when we saw the letter in the pocket.
ReplyDeletei found out that iff you put your fingure print on something and your iff you in trouble they can find out where you have been and what you have touched yes i enjoyed it today i had a great time.
Wow! I bet you had a lot of fun, and also learnt a lot about Forensic Science! Is anybody in Year 4 thinking about being a detective?

Hello, Year 4.
ReplyDeleteWhat a tragedy! Three bodies in the school hall is not what we would have expected. By their skeletal remains, they must have been there some times.
From the photos, I can see the junior detectives were hard at work. Being a science activity, this was immediately an interest for me. While I taught primary school, my degree is in science. I always enjoyed the search for clues to a mystery whether a chemical reaction, identifying and plant or animal, or trying to find out how something worked.
Fascinated by the forensic shows on television, one of my former students is now studying forensic science at university. It can be very interesting, although a little gruesome at times. :)
I can see by the above question on the post, you have discovered a female skeleton can be distinguished from that of a male. That is one of the first things a forensic scientist would use to determine what the person was if there were only skeletal remains.
Keep up the studies. I hope I have the chance to see your conclusions.

i found out that mens eye sockets are diffrent to womens and i also learnt that womens hips are bigger than mens hips so you can tell ifthe skeleton was a man or a woman
