As part of our "Village in India" topic we have been looking at the information contained in maps.

A map of Chembakolli |
First, we played a memory game. Each team came to the front to have a good look at the map and then had to return to the table. They had to write down information they had gathered.

ReplyDeleteHello Year 4,
ReplyDeleteYour mapping activity looks very interesting. Having been a Boy Scout and having earned my Queen’s Scout Award, mapping was an important skill for me. With a compass and military map in hand, I would lead my group out on hikes and never managed to lose my way. It started by doing activities like yours in class. The skills are still part of my life as I enjoy bush walking.
I can see you’ve learnt the importance of the key on a map. How different it would be today if I had an iPad in hand, a GPS tracker to know my location, and a Google map to help me? Of course, a map and compass won’t run out of battery power so I think I’d still take them on a long hike. ☺
