Science afternoon

I had a brilliant afternoon today working with my amazing scientists. I hope the children will respond using the comment box to let everyone know what they found.

Here are some photos of the learning that took place in class.

  1. Hi Year 4,

I have just watched your great photo presentation about your Science work. Two things really jumped out at me. First was the mention twice of keeping your testing "fair" and second was the word "independent", meaning that Mrs Warner gave you the opportunity to explore the experiment for yourselves which will have made it more memorable for you all.

A couple of questions for you ...
Why do tests have to be fair?
How can make sure the tests that you carry out are fair?

  2. Hello Year 4,

I am very impressed by your science experiments on absorption. I see you used standards when testing. Using the same sized trays, 100mls of water for each test, a set amount of time for each absorption test, and a measuring cylinder to accurately measure the remaining water assures fairer results. Without these, your results wouldn't be accurate. Well done, everyone. :)

For scientists, keeping testing "fair" is extremely important. When a scientist publishes his/her results, he/she must include details of how the experiment was carried out. This is so other scientists can check the results by carrying out the same experiments. Other scientists always point out if the experiment wasn't "fair".
