This week in maths

Y4 have been working really hard translating shapes, using an 8 point compass and reading co-ordinates.

Last week they enjoyed playing Dino Dig and Battleships.

If you'd like to play Battleships on line, click here

Here is another game called What's the point

Multifaceted learning 24th June

Multifaceted sessions this week include Art, ICT and R.E.

In art the children found out about the WW2 embroidery, and how Prisoner of War captive, Major AT Casdagli used embroidery to pass the time and communicate a code. Click here for more information.

In ICT the children used 2animate to make an animation.

In R.E the children learned what life is like being a Sikh.

Big Write - Adverts

Here are the adverts created as part of Big Write on Friday.

  • Can you find yours?
  • Which one do you think is the most effective?
  • Can you explain why?
  • If you did this task again, what would you keep the same and what would you change?

Creating adverts

Over the past couple of weeks, Y4 have been looking at advertisements on the T.V and in magazines. As an extra homework challenge the children brought examples of the adverts they saw and heard.

Y4 have been creating their own advert and this morning it was almost finished. The adverts were displayed on the tables and other children had to identify the features we said made an effective advert.

I will post photos of all the adverts later in the week. Make sure you come back to see them.

Literacy working wall
Creating slogans and catchy phrases
A completed advert - peer assessment
Reading the feedback and acting on it
The adverts are really eye catching and contain examples of persuasion. I especially like the Terms and Conditions at the bottom of Joseph's advert for the Spy Glasses.

What have you learnt about advertisements and the way they are used to persuade people to buy products?

Multifaceted learning

This week the facets have been linked to our main theme of "Being a child during WWII"

The children have made sculptures inspired by Henry Moore and the drawings he made of the huddled people in the underground stations.
Some children created independent work using Purple Mash and finally, other children identified the different historical sources of information we have used so far.

Did you enjoy using the clay? What words could you use to describe the sensation of shaping it?
Can you identify one historical source of information we have used to help us understand what life was like?
Have you been on Purple Mash at home?

Beat for a treat

Today I had a great afternoon in the sunshine watching 21 excited children cycle, skate and scoot around the school playground.

I'm not sure if Year 4 enjoyed it as much as me but I bet they did.

I was a pro on Michaela's scooter!!

Well done Y4 you deserved your treat for 96.3% attendance this half term

A very special visitor

Today Mr Wisnia came to see us and talk about the Jewish beliefs and customs. It was fascinating listening to information about the Jewish faith and his own family experiences of WWII.

  • Did you enjoy the visit?
  • What did you find out?
  • What surprised or interested you?
  • Are you curious about anything we talked about?
If you follow this link you will see videos Mr Wisnia shared with the Y4 class last year.
