Big Write - Adverts

Here are the adverts created as part of Big Write on Friday.

  • Can you find yours?
  • Which one do you think is the most effective?
  • Can you explain why?
  • If you did this task again, what would you keep the same and what would you change?

Creating adverts

Over the past couple of weeks, Y4 have been looking at advertisements on the T.V and in magazines. As an extra homework challenge the children brought examples of the adverts they saw and heard.

Y4 have been creating their own advert and this morning it was almost finished. The adverts were displayed on the tables and other children had to identify the features we said made an effective advert.

I will post photos of all the adverts later in the week. Make sure you come back to see them.

Creating slogans and catchy phrases
A completed advert - peer assessment
Reading the feedback and acting on it
The adverts are really eye catching and contain examples of persuasion. I especially like the Terms and Conditions at the bottom of Joseph's advert for the Spy Glasses.

What have you learnt about advertisements and the way they are used to persuade people to buy products?

Big Writing task - Adverts

The Big Write task was to produce an advert for one of the six items we are selling in Warner-mart.

Have the children remembered any of the features we have discussed this week?

Leave some feedback, maybe a star and a wish.

Adverts

Have a look in a newspaper or magazine for some adverts and see if you can spot some of the features we discussed this week.

Share all your new knowledge with your parents and point out any persuasive language, slogans or techniques you see.

If you find a good one, bring it to school

Adverts

Year 4 have started a new unit of work in Literacy. This week we are looking at printed adverts and tomorrow they are going to design an advertisement for a new toy but first they had to look at what makes an effective advert.

Having a look at printed adverts and discussing the features
Who is the advert aimed at?

Mr Walls explaining the layout
Is it effective? How?
Writing the evidence on the sheet
What language features are used? Are there any slogans?

Looking for slogans, persuasive language

Later on in the day, we enjoyed reading Willy the Wimp by Anthony Browne and noticed an advertisement in there. Willy found it in the comic he was reading.

Do you think this is an effective advert?

Don't forget to bring some adverts in from home.
