The Diamond Jubilee celebrations in Year 4

26 very excited children wearing red, blue and white came into class ready to have a morning of fun and a street party eating cucumber sandwiches, jelly and trifle. Some children went back in time to the 1950's wearing some top fashions.

The Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II

We also enjoyed listening to Brett Domino sing The Diamond Jubilee song

Here is the official song written by Gary Barlow with The Commonwealth band featuring  the Military Wives

Here are some old photos of a little baby enjoying the Silver Jubilee street party in 1977. Do you recognise who it is?

A break for lunch but leave some room for the goodies at the street party.

Our street party with Y3

We have had a brilliant day and look forward to more fun over half term.

Write back and tell me what you have enjoyed about our celebrations.

  14. Dear Year 4,

This is a wonderful collection of photos on what I can see was a wonderful day. Here in Australia, your celebrations are often only starting when it is evening here. We must wait till the next morning to see what had been happening in London.

From what I have seen, there is bunting everywhere and many street parties around the country. I know of the procession of boats down the Thames and the expected crowds along the shores.

Whether a school party, local street party or being in London itself, these experiences will be remembered because there has only ever been one Diamond Jubilee before this, that of Queen Victoria. Queen Elizabeth II is a wonderful monarch I have been able to see a number of times during her visits to Australia.

Thank you for sharing the embedded videos. The coronation was a little before my time but I had seen it played out a number of times over the years. You can see hundreds of years of tradition in the ceremony, including the singing of Handel's "Zadok the Priest" on the crowning of a king or queen.

I hadn't heard "Sing" performed before seeing your link. I immediately visited iTunes to download it. It is a stunning tribute to the Commonwealth and its queen.

    Enjoy your half term break.
