Golden Children

Elle and Alyssa

Alyssa continues to bring her smile everyday. She can always be relied upon to be doing the right thing and setting an excellent example to the rest of the class.

Elle always performs to her highest abilities in school and continues this at home. She regularly completes extra homework tasks and is one of my “Blogging Champions.”

Philosophy for Children and Big Write

On Monday we read a story called Voices in the Park by Anthony Browne.

An online version to read is here

We had a debate about each character and how they related to each other. One of the questions I asked was "Does having lots of money make you happy?"

In today's Big Write the children had to become the voice of Charles or Smudge and retell their version of going to the park.

Look at Y4 concentrating hard during their BIG WRITE session.

If we had scratch and sniff blogging you would be able to smell the wonderful aroma the children can always smell during Big Write.

Here are some examples of writing.

Some questions to consider;

What do we know about the 4 characters?
Why don't the adults talk to each other?
Why do the children talk to each other?
Are these people part of the same community?
How do the pictures tell the story?

What other questions could you ask?

Fractions

We started our new maths topic today; Fractions.

Pharaoh Amber having the first go

Here is the game we played.

Have fun.

After the first session, the children self assessed their work.

I hope by the end of our topic there will be more books in the green tray

Pizza Party

The children have finally earned 50 pizza toppings for their excellent attitude, team work and manners.

In maths today the children had to create a shopping list so I knew what to buy for the party.
It was important that they considered price and used their maths knowledge to work out how much of something I needed to buy.
Children also had to find out which was cheapest option, ready made pizzas or make your own.

Big Write star writer of the week is ..

Bailey

Well done Bailey, you worked very hard on your non-chronological report about Egypt. In it you discussed the differences between poor and rich children and you also named many Egyptian Gods.

Over the week we will all be working to improve the first draft.

See if you can make your own information book here

Presentation Monday

Today we found out about Amber's hobby.

She had prepared a presentation to explain what Gymnastics involves and brought her rosettes and medals.

Explaining everything you need to know about gymnastics

After a competition

Amber told us all about Mary Lou Retton

Amber found out the preferences of her family
Mary Lou Retton

WOW!!

Explaining the skills needed to gain each rosette

Amber's rosettes, medals, leotard and grips
I thoroughly enjoyed Amber's presentation and learnt something new. I am really looking forward to watching gymnastics during the 2012 Olympics now.

Observational drawings

Today the children have been drawing some Egyptian artefacts.

Some of their super observations;

Can you remember what we called the objects directly in front of us and those in books or photographs?
