Golden Children

I am very proud of the following children;

Jayden has had an excellent couple of weeks.  He has a new positive frame of mind and this is now paying off in class.

James continually strives to do his best in and out of the classroom. He is helpful, well mannered and a fab team player.

Talk homework

Tonight try to persuade your parents to let you wear your own clothes (non uniform) to school on Monday.

What will you say and how will you back it up?

Space Invader maths

The children had lots of fun this week creating space aliens and their spaceships.

Everyone concentrated really hard to make sure the alien and spaceship was symmetrical. (It was trickier than you might think)

Here are some examples

W.A.G.O.L.L .....What A Good One Looks Like

Have you noticed the new page?

Here is the place to comment about the W.A.G.O.L.L. and nominate a piece of work you think deserves to be on the wall of fame.

There will be at least one posted each week.

Nominate the W.A.G.O.L.L.  and justify why I should put it on our blog.

Presentation Monday

Today Year 4 listened to a presentation about drawing. It was really interesting and the children even had a chance to win prizes. The group shared two different books and a variety of drawing media. The competition was a huge hit with the class. Well done to Alice, Ela and Jayden who won a prize.

A very interesting book with hundreds of drawing tips

Explaining the drawing competition

Here is a link to Leeds Art Gallery and here is a link to Art Attack website where you will find some great ideas.

A great presentation girls, well done!

What can you remember about the presentation? Give the girls some feedback.

BIG WRITE Star writer of the week is ......

Jayden

Jayden organised his writing to include points for and against wearing a school uniform.

This type of writing can be called "a balanced argument" and here is a game to reinforce your new knowledge.

Let me know how you get on.

Talk homework

Tonight I'd like you to talk about school uniforms.

Why do you think children wear them?
Why can't you wear your own clothes?
Should you have to wear a uniform?
What would happen if there was no uniform?
Where else can you see uniforms?

Fun with shapes

This week the children were challenged to make a range of different 2D shapes using 6 equilateral triangles.

There was a lot of trial and error before sticking them down.

Labelled shapes made from 6 triangles

Counting the sides to help work out the name

Next the children investigated reflective lines of symmetry.
The game we played is here. It's called "Symmetry sort"

Sorting shapes based on reflective lines of symmetry

No lines of symmetry - one line of symmetry - two or more lines of symmetry

Finally the children had to self assess their work. Every session they reflect on their learning and place their book in the tray that best describes how they feel. Year 4 are very good at being honest.

Reflecting on today's work

Placing her book in the green box

The whole class has self assessed their learning

Next week we will continue with some more symmetry activities.
Here is a game to try, can you work out how many lines of symmetry the shapes have.
See if you can spot the shape Jamie researched on Tuesday.
