Golden Children 19th April

Hannah regularly visits the class blog leaving quality comments. She has also gone the extra mile adding news to her own personal blog.

Elle is so motivated, she regularly continues her learning at home and recently found the answer to a maths question we asked.

Talk homework

Tonight I'd like you to talk about how the author uses description to give the reader information about a character's appearance, feelings and actions.

Think about Lenny in The Lion and the Unicorn, why did the author choose to use the words she did?
What could she have used instead?

Think about David in Friend or Foe, what picture did the author create when Mum woke him up the morning of the evacuation?

Think about Traditional Tales, how are the characters portrayed?

Brainpop

I am currently looking at buying Brainpop to use in school. I saw it when I went to BETT in London, it looks really great with lots of videos, quizzes and FYI's. I noticed there's some free stuff to access.
Can you have a look and let me know what you think.
Leave a comment so I can go to Mr E and Miss Hillerby with reasons why school should buy it.

Free stuff here

Have fun

Learning Log prompt 18th April

I will give you your logs tomorrow but here is a sneaky peek

Research any aspect of World War 2

There are so many websites about WW2 on the internet so I have put some websites together you might find useful. Don't forget there will be plenty of information at Whinmoor Library too.
You might be able to interview some older family members about their experiences.

I look forward to reading them in two weeks time.

World War 2

What is happening in this photograph?

We began our new theme this week, starting literacy with The Lion and the Unicorn. We also started to read our new class novel called Friend or Foe by Michael Morpurgo.

Here is a link to Woodlands Junior school's page about WW2. You will find this very useful.

What did you find out when we researched WW2 this afternoon?
Tell me what you are keen to learn?
Write some questions you would like to try and answer about WW2.

The Lion and the Unicorn

Today we started our literacy unit about stories from a historical setting.
We read The Lion and the Unicorn by Shirley Hughes.

As I read the story Year 4 had to takes notes. These notes were used to remind ourselves of what we wanted to look in greater detail at over the coming weeks.

Some points the children wanted to look at in more detail

Writing journals full of notes.
What can you recall from the story?
How do you know it was set in an earlier time in history.
What clues did you see?

Here is a link to Woodlands Junior school about the Lion and the Unicorn. Write back and tell me what you find out.

Make a list of places you have seen this image.

Can you write for a whole minute?

This morning I set Year 4 a new challenge.

They had to write for a whole minute about the word I put on the board.

The word for today was chocolate

During that 1 minute they had to write non stop.

Have another go, in the comments box see if you can type words about chocolate for 1 minute - NO CHEATING.

Man of the match

Yesterday I was playing football against Rothwell juniors it was really fun it was 2 0 to Rothwell. I was the man of the match because of my hard work, teamwork and good sportsmenship. I feel proud of the hard work I have put in my football.
