On Tuesday we started a new unit of work based on stories with a dilemma. Because we love picture books and stories written by Anthony Browne, this was the one Mrs Warner decided to use.

The children were left in suspense when we reached the part where the girl had to make a decision about whether she would follow her brother into the tunnel.
To help understand how she might be feeling we played a game called "Conscience Alley"

We continued to read the story and then asked each other what was on the other side of the tunnel?

Everyone worked really hard using their imaginations and drawing on the clues in the illustrations, to work out what might be on the other side of the tunnel.

Partners tried to draw what was described to show the writer how well they had achieved the target of "painting a picture" for the reader.
Finally, the children peer marked the work giving it a star and a wish.

ReplyDeleteMe and my partner said that I shouldn't use so many thens next time and I said they need to check their punctuation and spellings I will take my wish in mind.
The tunnel book was awesome I liked the part where the boy was wearing that mask it was cool I liked it when we wrote it up in our literacy books it was cool

The illustration is epic and it gives some children more creativity and its a cool book!

ReplyDeleteI loved the story i hope to read it agan. well in the story mum said go to getter and play but the girl just liked to stay in the house the girl found a tunle and went in and so did the boy and she found that he was in stone.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed reading the tunnel it was lovely where she found her brother at the end also when i found out they were called jack and rose it made me think alot about titanic.
