Our Friday surprise

This morning Y4 waited eagerly to find out what the surprise was on the visual timetable.
At 9.15am Mr Wisnia, our former Headteacher, came into class to talk about the Jewish faith.

Since reading The Lion and the Unicorn, the children were keen to learn more about Lenny's life. In the story Lenny felt left out because he didn't join in with the same things as the other children.

Today Y4 found out about some of the customs and festivals celebrated by Jewish people.

What it means to be Jewish

Mr Wisnia

Can you remember what this is?

Wearing a prayer shawl called a tallit, and a kipar

The candles are lit. Can you remember why?

Breaking the bread

Sharing the bread

Talking about the Sabbath or Shabbat

Recording what they have found out

Here are the videos Mr Wisnia shared with us.

  1. There are so many different people in the world, who are different in so many ways. I love the fact that you are so keen to find out about the faith and religion of others. If everyone did the same we might not have so many problems in the world...

  26. Hello Year 4,

This is a fascinating post about one of the world's great religions. I particularly liked the video "The Story of Chanukha" because it talks of the right to worship in freedom.

In one of my classes, I once had five world religions in the one room. They were Christian, Muslim, Baha'i, Hindu and Buddhist. When we had multicultural days, it was interesting to see the mix of clothing and food from around the world. There are so many interesting cultures in our world.
